DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE NATIONAL FILES

NATIONAL.EXE

This is a self-extracting "archive" file, which means that the file contains a number of other files inside, which will be "unpacked" once the file is opened.

Once opened, the following 11 files should appear:

  • NATIONAL.TXT the players' name database
  • NATIONAL.NDX the numerical index for the above
  • NATIONAL.CLB the clubs' database
  • ALTERNAT.TXT alternate members' clubs database
  • NAT4WIN.EXE the windows program
  • NAT4DOS.EXE the alternative dos program
  • NAT_FIND.COM a search utility used by the DOS program
  • NAT_SORT.COM a sort utility used by the DOS program
  • EVENTS.EXE contains a 3-character code for all events
  • HISTORY.EXE contains all player awards and the events
  • PRE82.EXE contains list of all red points issued prior to 1982

To make sure that you have the latest files, check the dates of the .txt and .ndx files.

NATIONAL.ARJ, NATIONAL.A01, .A02 and .A03

These are also "archive" files, but they require the ARJ.EXE program for "unpacking". If you don't have a copy, it can be found on our website on the Download page.

These four files, contain exactly the same files as the .exe version.  Thus, if you have chosen to download the NATIONAL.EXE file, there is no need to download these four files and vice versa. The reason that these files have been split, is to enable each of the files to fit onto a 1.44mb floppy disk. The advice rendered for the NATIONAL.EXE file, also applies to these files.

Once you have downloaded all these files, they must be "un-packed". This may be done by using one of the following methods:

i) Automatic Installation

For this method to work, you must ensure that you place the four downloaded files and the ARJ.EXE in your ABF folder on your c: drive. If you don't have such an folder, you must create a new folder and then rename it ABF.

Then download the NATSETUP.BAT installation file into the ABF folder. Now click on <Start>, <Run> and <Browse>. Locate and click on NATSETUP.BAT and then on OK. That should unpack the four files automatically and the eleven files listed above should now be placed in your ABF folder

ii) Manual installation

To install the files manually, make sure that the ARJ.EXE utility file is placed in the same folder as the four NATIONAL files Click on START, RUN, BROWSE and locate the folder containing the files. Then type… ARJ X -Y NATIONAL.ARJ and click OK

Click on START, RUN, BROWSE and locate the folder containing the files. then repeat the procedure for the other three files (.A01, .A02 and .A03)

Make sure that you unpack the files in the same order as prescribed in 2., 3. and 4. above (this is important because the file with the extension .ARJ is actually the 1st file and .A01, despite its name, is the 2nd file and so forth!).

Using NAT4WIN (or NAT4DOS)

You are now ready to use the NAT4WIN or NAT4DOS application program. Click on START, RUN, BROWSE and locate the folder containing the files. Then click on the file you wish to use and click on OK. The NAT4WIN program includes the following features (NAT4DOS a few less):

  • Look-up any Player and associated masterpoints (by name or by no.)
  • Select and extract a group of players
  • View detail contained in any masterpoint file
  • Merge 2 or more files of the same type (colour) into one file
  • Create a Player Details' file for transmission via email.
  • Edit any masterpoint file
  • Create a Cover Page for Congress & State Awards (State MP-Secretaries only)
  • Create Awards Adjustment Application for transmission via email
  • Look-up any Masterpoint Secretary in Australia
  • Look-up current number of members of clubs in Australia
  • Enter Awards for home and "alt" members (like CPAR forms)
  • Enter Awards for none-listed players (like Sundy Awards forms)
  • Create list of annual Membership Cancellations
  • Create Player Awards Statements for one player or for all home members of a selected club.
